I can't say enough wonderful things about First Mate Academy and their First Mate Summer Camp! My son, who is 8 years old and the youngest in the camp's age range (8-15), had the time of his life during Week 1. Initially, I was hesitant to enroll him, worried that he might feel left out or overwhelmed by the older kids. However, after speaking with Captain Andy, my concerns vanished. He has the patience of a saint and is incredibly accessible and flexible with parents. He went out of his way to ensure my son felt welcomed and included, and he has a remarkable ability to connect with kids on their level. Our group consisted of 6 kids: two 8-year-olds and four kids aged 11 and 12. The older kids were fantastic role models, helping to teach my son the importance of teamwork and paying attention during lessons. Captain Andy’s booming voice was impressive throughout the week, ensuring all the kids could hear him clearly—an essential safety feature on a boat. His mix of structure and ease created a perfect learning environment. Captain Andy had a second captain, Captain Aidan, who was equally great with the kids. The camp was well-organized, with a clear weekly plan and handouts on the specific fish they were targeting. My son will always remember catching his first redfish at First Mate Academy, and I am so grateful for the positive, educational, and fun experience he had. Captain Andy is a natural with the kids, and the program offered a fantastic opportunity for my son to be out in nature, learning valuable fishing and boating skills from professionals. The final day, where parents were invited to observe and the kids received their certificates, was a perfect end to an incredible week. I highly recommend First Mate Academy to any parent looking for a top-notch summer camp experience for their child. We can’t wait to come back for more! 🌊🐟⚓️
